(Amman, Jordan) 18 November, 2008: The Royal Health Awareness Society celebrates International World Diabetes Day with the Global Micro-Clinic Project.

The Global Micro-Clinic Project is a community-based program that aims to empower people to prevent and manage diabetes by forming partnerships between healthcare professionals, academia, government, and citizens.

The event was attended by Director of Primary Healthcare Administration at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Adel Al Bilbaisi, along with Balqa Health Director, Dr. Ali Hiyasat, Dr. Enas Younis from Prince Hamza Public Hospital, and Dr. Jamal Al Dabas the Director of Ain Al- Basha Medical Center.

Dr. Bilbaisi said:
'Our cooperation with the Royal Health Awareness Society comes in line with our belief that all local organizations should work hand-in-hand to raise awareness on diabetes in order to build a healthier society.'

'Diabetes prevalence is increasing in Jordan, and one might not be aware that he/she has diabetes because it has no obvious symptoms, while in fact, diabetes can seriously affect the heart, nervous system, eyes, and kidneys,' he added.

During the lecture, Dr. Enas Younis reassured the importance of screening diabetes by running a blood glucose test periodically for all Jordanians aged above forty years even if symptoms are not yet present.

On the other hand, project officer of the Global Micro-Clinic Project, Dr. Yara Ali Musleh highlighted the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle, exercising, and reducing fat and sugar intake, indicating that if patients were able to control their blood sugar levels, most complications due to diabetes can be avoided.

The Global Micro-Clinic Project is a joint effort between Jordan's Royal Health Awareness Society (RHAS) and the Ministry of Health (MoH), which addresses the diabetes epidemic in Jordan, and aims to establish 300 Micro-Clinics that will include more than 900 participants in both Ain Al- Basha and Jabal Al- Naser areas.
